Qama and Landro found when they returned to the beach that Torleos was well rested after his sleep, and that Perens had gathered a large quantity of fruits and berries. They looked similar to the ones which grew at home, but most of them, like the animals, were of slightly different shape or colour. Everyone took as much as they wanted.
“Did you see the Great Land?” Torleos asked.
“We saw only water,” said Qama. “There is too much haze in the distance to be able to see anything else.”
“How did that make you feel?”
“It was weird,” said Landro.
“Qama?”
“It disturbed me at first, but now I think I like it.”
“Why is that?”
“Because it made me realise the world is bigger than I thought, and I am only a small part of it. This is comforting.”
“Not to me,” said Landro. “I don’t want to come here again.”
“You don’t have to,” said Torleos. “But we should stay here and talk now, then go back tomorrow.”
